Tin Foil Time: Why The Patriots Drafted Isaiah Wynn And Sony Michel

The most frequent question that has surrounded the Patriots since Jimmy G was drafted in 2014 is who will be the replacement for Tom Brady? It WAS supposed to be Garappolo and he looked the part in his 1.5 games. Only problem was Tom took his game to a new level and had the greatest 4 year stretch a quarterback has ever had, forcing the team to trade the heir apparent for a bag of balls and a working pump.

Since then there has been constant speculation to who will be their next guy to replace Tom. Last years draft name was Kyle Lauletta out of Richmond, but the Giants took him. When it was clear Bortles was going to be cut his name was floated around. And now with the rumblings that the Cardinals are going to select Kyler Murray with the first overall pick Josh Rosen is the flavor of the month. I’ve already written why that won’t happen so get check that out if you want to know why the Patriots will not be trading for him.

I have a new theory that I haven’t heard being discussed anywhere and it’s likely because it is Alex Jones level of crazy.

In last years draft everyone was shocked that Bill 1- used both picks and 2- selected an undersized tackle and a running back- two players that he would never have looked at before. And sure, you can argue why they were selected (I’ve done it myself many times); Wynn, though undersized, will be a good left tackle and Michel showed last year how much he can contribute. But for the fun of debating, I believe there’s another reason why he drafted not one, but two offensive players from Georgia.

They’re making a play for Jake Fromm in next years draft. Think about it, when Josh takes over he’s going to want somebody that can run a pro style offense. Specifically, an offense that depends on accuracy and brains rather than pure arm talent. Fromm can’t throw the ball a country mile but he can fit it in tight spaces and understands how to read a defense.

If they draft him next year he will realistically have two years to sit and learn from Brady. We always heard how Tom kept things from Jimmy and why wouldn’t he? The guy was drafted to replace him and he felt he could still play. This time, however, he knows the end is near and will want to leave the team in good hands. He’ll take Fromm under his wing and tutor him so that when he leaves the team wont be in disarray.

And what better people to surround the guy taking over for the greatest quarterback of all time than his left tackle and running back? It gives him some comfort with the guys around him and familiarity with how guys from his system adapted to the lifestyle in New England.

And if the team takes Riley Ridley this year? Buddy, my spidey senses will be firing on all cylinders. A running back, receiver, and left tackle that all played with Fromm? Theres too many dots to connect for there not to be smoke.

Now, how they’ll make that happen I don’t know. Fromm will be a top 5 pick and they haven’t picked in the top-5 since 2000. Most of the teams in the top-5 will be looking for a quarterback so they will be reluctant to trade-especially with the Patriots. But Bill always has a plan and after talking about it for the last few months I firmly believe that Jake Fromm will be the next great Patriots quarterback.
