Is 2019 Going To Be The Best Movie Year Of All Time?

With Captain Marvel smashing box offices around the globe, and the hype train for Avengers: Endgame at full speed, we have two incredible movies in the first four months of the year. Avengers could very well surpass Avatar for the highest grossing film of all time, leapfrogging the last Avengers movie in the process.

With those two blockbusters either released or right around the corner I started looking at what else is coming this year and my God. There is an absurd number of movies coming out this year that will be box office hits, Oscar winners, and tear inducers.

March:

US- Jordan Peele’s follow up to his 2017 hit Get Out looks like another masterpiece, combining societal issues and cinematic art to create this thriller.

April:

Shazam- DC’s next superhero movie looks to be their best based on early reviews. Zachary Levi was “born for this role” according to multiple reports and this fun, action-packed movie looks to turn DC’s fortunes around.

Avengers: Endgame- This one doesn’t need any explaining, as the epic saga that wraps up phase three of the Marvel cinematic universe that started with 2008’s Iron Man is going to be one of the highest grossing movies of all-time and a goodbye to a lot of our favorite superheroes.

May:

Poekmon Detective Pikachu- This will be a polarizing movie as half the country will think it’s an incredibly idiotic idea and the other half will see it for a variety of reasons. People my age (myself included) will go see it for nostalgia purposes. Pokemon blew up in the late 90’s/early 2000’s, and Pikachu was everyones favorite. And with the Pokemon game captivating millions of people over the last handful of years those people will want to see their favorite characters come to life. Plus, Ryan Reynolds is extremely selective with his movies ever since Green Lantern inspired everyone to puke all over themselves. He wouldn’t sign on to this if he didn’t think it was going to work.

John Wick Chapter 3- These movies are just fun. Nonstop action, Keanu Reeves, and girls.

Ad Astra- Starring Brad Pitt, Tommy Lee Jones, and Donald Sutherland, this movie follows Brad Pitt’s space exploration to find his dad that went on a one-way trip to Neptune 20 years ago.

Aladdin- This looks really, really weird, but still brings to life a favorite animated film. Will Smith hasn’t done a good movie in forever, and I don’t think that will change here, but people will see it for the novelty factor.

Rocketman- The biopic of Elton John, Taron Egerton got the role after working with John on the set of Kingsman. Elton might have the best discography of all time, and even if the plot is bad, the soundtrack will be outstanding.

June

Secret Life Of Pets 2- The first movie was a loving, family friendly movie that did a great job of showing us what happens when pets are left alone. This movie will be fun and entertaining for people of all ages.

Dark Phoenix- Sophie Turner has transitioned out of Game Of Thrones now that the show is (almost) over and taken the role of Jean Grey, the ultra powerful mutant in the X-men world. The reboot that started with First Class in 2011 hasn’t had a bad movie since, and this will be no exception.

Men In Black International- You’d think Chris Hemsworth would want to stay away from franchises after playing Thor for 8 years but he’s diving head first into the Men In Black world with his Ragnarok costar Tessa Thompson and action hero Liam Neeson. This movie looks awesome and I can’t wait to see it.

Toy Story 4- While the franchise should have ended after the last movie, Toy Story 4 will make over a billion dollars because of how good Pixar movies are and, in particular, the Toy Story series.

Ford Vs Ferrari- The true story based on Fords attempt to build a car that could compete with Ferrari stars Christian Bale and Matt Damon. Damon hasn’t done a good movie in a while now, save for The Martian, but I will see every movie he does strictly due to the fact he’s from Boston.

July

Spiderman: Far From Home- The first movie post Avengers world will look to continue on the successful reboot of the character, with Jake Gyllenhall starring alongside Tom Holland.

The Lion King- YES! This is going to be incredible. With Favreau directing, our favorite childrens movie is coming to life. I’m still going to cry, probably even more this time, and that’s ok. This comes out on my birthday and I will be setting aside two hours to go see it in theaters.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood- I mean, Brad Pitt and Leonardo Dicaprio with Tarentino directing. What else needs to be said?

August

Fast and Furious: Hobbs and Shaw- Buckle your seatbelt. Hobbs and Shaw are teaming up again, this time to fight Idris Elba. We all know how this movie will go but that doesn’t mean we cant have fun watching car chases, explosions, and The Rock displaying some incredible feat of strength.

October

Joker- Joaquim Phoenix is the craziest guy in Hollywood so this was a pefecting casting choice. I don’t know how good the movie itself will be but I can guarantee he will kill the role.

Zombieland: Double Tap- The sequel to the 2009 hit will be interesting. I’m assuming it’ll be exactly the same as the first one, only this time there will be a baby involved. I’m thinking a comedic twist on A Quiet Place.

A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood- Tom Hanks was born to play Mr Rodgers and this will be the friendliest movie of the year.

November

Charlies Angels- The reboot of the franchise stars Lupita Nyongo and Kristen Stewart, and should be a good action flick with quality actresses.

Kingsman 3- The last movie in the epic trilogy, we will see Eggsy and Harry save the world once again with the help of Channing Tatum. I love these movies and so should you. Fast paced action with good soundtracks, the first two were fun movies and the third and final will follow suit.

Frozen 2- I just saw Frozen for the first time and loved it. The songs slap and that’s all I really care about. This will be more of the same and that’s a great thing.

December

Jumanji 2- Kevin Hart, The Rock, and Jack Black are teaming up again in the sequel to the surprise comedy from 2017. I don’t know how the plot is lining up but it’ll be a classic Kevin Hart movie- stupid lines that make you laugh and an ending that works out for the good guys.

Star Wars Episode IX- The final movie in the new trilogy, Rey looks to defeat The Empire once and for all and the movie will break box office records.

There are even more movies than that but I didn’t feel like going through every single one. 2019 is going to be one hell of a year for movies and I can’t wait.
