Credit to the casting director on this one. Hemsworth is a real…wait for it… lightning rod in Hollywood.
What a wild ride its been for Hemsworth, huh? Started out as a one scene character in Star Trek, became a household name with Thor, expanded his audience with Snow White, is taking on the extraterrestrial in the new Men In Black, and did what every other action movie star does and portrayed a military member. Now he’s tasked with depicting arguably the most iconic wrestler of all time.
It’ll be a challenge for Hemsworth as he is stepping outside of his comfort zone here. This will be the first time he sways from the action star stigma in a starring role. Although the Hulkster is an action star in his own right, he’s also a wildly entertaining person with an incredible story to tell.
While Hemsworth has the resemblance, I hope he has the acting chops to pull this off. I dont think there is a more universally loved wrestler than Hulk. If they story allows for it and he can pull off a performance similar to Mickey Rorque in, “The Wrestler,” Hemsworth has an opportunity to expand his future roles right at the time that his time in the MCU is ending.
I hope that’s the case as I believe he is a good actor and has so far been pigeon holed. He is also objectively an incredibly good looking human and seeing him take on more of these roles after his Avengers duties are up will keep him on screen for years to come.
