For 10 years we heard/have been hearing that the Pats are connected to either of those two as an offseason trade target. Johnson retired two years ago and fans still clamor for him! It’s truly incredible how delusional some fans are that fall for the same story every. single. season.
Any time there is a big name receiver either supposedly looking to be traded or a free agent, everyone in New England screams that the Pats need to go after them. People, ground yourself in reality here. Moss and Cooks were the exception, not the rule. And they happened 10 years apart.
Neither Larry Fitz or Calvin Johnson were ever a Patriot and Beckham will not be traded here. It is not how the team operates. They won’t even sign Golden Tate! I would love for them to but he will cost too much. Know what they will do? They’ll go find the next Dante Stallworth. The next Jabar Gaffney. The next Brandon LaFell. The next Chris Hogan. Guys who are castoff veterans that you can get for cheap and will buy into your system. Those are the guys that become great complimentary players and give you 60 catches for 700 yards and 5 touchdowns.
Do I know who that guy will be this year? Nope. But they will go sign a receiver or trade for one. They have to from a strict numbers standpoint. But it won’t be Beckham. It won’t be Julio Jones. And it probably wont be Golden Tate. It’ll be someone you’ve only heard of because they had a few catches against the team 2 years ago and Bill has had his eyes on him since then. For your own mental health, stop thinking those guys are coming here.
