Shamina Begun, the UK teen who went to Syria to join ISIS, wants to come back home now. And I say let her.
One of the biggest fears of ISIS, that began decades ago with the Taliban, is not knowing who they are amongst us. Your neighbor could be a member of ISIS, either directly or indirectly, and you’d have no idea. One day you invite them over for dinner and then they blow up your house after eating your steak and drinking your beer.
With this girl, you know who she is. Everyone knows her name and what she looks like.
“Oh, I’m not a terrorist anymore. I mean, I did say I was weak for leaving ISIS but I’m like totalllly NOT a member anymore.”
If she had an emoji license plate it would just be 5 winking faces and a bomb.
Let her back so she can be taken into custody. But not by authorities. No. That’d be too easy. They’d lock her in a cell for the rest of her life and that’s it. Let her go home to her parents.
Is there anything worse as a kid then an, “I’m not mad. I’m disappointed” from mom and dad. Picturing her parents, arms-crossed, head cocked to the side, while she sits in a chair crying after getting that is more emotional and physical damage than she will endure in prison. Hell maybe it’ll be such a prolonged silence filled only by the unwavering sobbing and sniffling coming from her she’ll decide to just kill herself.
So let her back in, because nobody can handle disappointed parents.
But seriously fuck this girl. Can’t wait until her tribe leader finds her and just kills her himself.
