A clip from the 1977 NFC Championship game has been making the rounds on twitter for the last couple weeks. The video showed a fan completely engulfed in flames. Like, head to toe, couldn’t see his body only the fiery shape, on fire. My dad told me of the shit he used to see happen at the old Patriots stadium in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Fans also being set on fire, one poor Jets fan being held by his ankles over the edge of the top bowl with fans throwing beer at him. Just normal things. It got me thinking what the craziest thing I ever saw was.
It’s tough now because 1- people simply aren’t as insane and 2- authorities and/or security are quick to stop something before it escalates too far. And relatively speaking I’m young and haven’t been around the block as much as my generations parents have. But that doesn’t mean people aren’t still dumb. There are two that come to mind for myself.
- Guy getting knocked out at Fenway in the bathroom. One fine gentleman who may have had one too many beers decided he didn’t want to wait in line for a urinal and would use the sink as his toilet. Watching him wobble back and forth like one of those Bop Bags trying to get his dick out of his pants was funny enough, but the angry dad whose 5 year old was washing his hands next to him didn’t find it funny. After SCREAMING at this blacked out mess to put his dick away and the guy laughing in his face he wound up and threw a haymaker that would have made Tyson proud. The man crumbled into his puddle of pee and the guy ran off with his kid.

- If you don’t park in one of the three main lots at Gillette, you have a bit of a walk to the stadium. There are staties that are on the side of the road making sure people aren’t fighting or causing any harm. They never intervene because people are generally in a good mood no matter how drunk they are. One man, however, decided to run his mouth. At said staties. For no reason other than being an asshole he went over to the group of 4 and started yelling at them. At first, they took it fine. Told him to keep walking and enjoy the game. Then he pushed one of them. Wrong move. They dragged this guy behind their cruisers, opened the doors, and beat the ever living shit out of this guy with their batons. Called the EMT over to haul the guy away and never looked back. All of this happened in a span of 2 minutes, and 10 year old me was shell shocked.
I’m sure there are others that I am forgetting, but those took stuck out because of the ferocity that those men were hit with.
